Upcoming iPhone models to ditch Qualcomm modems in favor of Intel modems
The ongoing dispute between tech majors Apple and Qualcomm has resulted in Qualcomm being ditched for supplying phone modems for its upcoming iPhones in 2018. This year Apple will exclusively rely on Intel for supplying its chips, saying they it meets technical requirements and holds competitive prices.
But this holds a risk for Apple as it might not be ready for 5G networking as early as Qualcomm. Last year, KGI securities reported that Apple will improve LTE speeds significantly by supporting 4*4 MIMO chips. Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at KGI Securities has said Apple might give 30% of its orders to Qualcomm as units with its hardware performed better than the one with Intel.
Soon after the report Qualcomm filed 3 complains against Apple in a US court alleging violations on 16 different patents. Apple was quick to respond by counter-suing them for violations of 8 different patents.
Let me know in the comments your opinions on Apple's move....
