Tablet shipments continue to decline

Tablet market witnessed another year of losses as shipments continue to decline....

As per report from IDC, 49.6 million units of tablets were sold worldwide last year in Q4 of 2017. It was a 7.9% decline sales in the same quarter of 2016 in which 53.8 million units were sold. While Apple continued to dominate it was Amazon which came out to dethrone Samsung from its second position and take its spot. Note that IDC estimates takes into account both slate form factor and detachables. 
Amazon's shipments soared by 50% worldwide in Q4 2017. It sold a total of 7.7 million tablets in the last quarter as compared to Samsung's 7 million units, a decline of 13% year over year. Amzon's market share jumped from 9.6% to 15.6%. The improvements happened because of steep discounts offered during the holiday season.

Apple continued to dominate with 26.6% market share. A total of 13.2 million units were shipped in the last quarter, a growth of 0.6% year over year in terms of volume. Apple's success was largely due to the 9.7-inch iPad and the revamped iPad Pro lineup.

Huawei and Lenovo managed to be at the 4th and 5th positions respectively. Talking about total no. of shipments for the entire year, it was Apple which shipped highest number of tablets(43.8 million units), Samsung came 2nd(24.9 million units) and Amazon stuck to the 3rd place(16.0 million units). Meanwhile Huawei and Lenovo came 4th and 5th respectively.
